Zofran (ondansetron) is a prescription medication used to combat nausea and vomiting and has been linked to an increased risk of birth defects and other side effects among pregnant women. The drug, manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, was originally prescribed to patients undergoing chemotherapy and surgery to control chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. Unfortunately, doctors began to prescribe the drug to treat morning sickness. This off-label use of the drug put women and their unborn children at risk of serious birth defects.
