A class action lawsuit was filed against Exactech, a global medical device company, alleging that some of their medical devices are unsafe to insert in patients. The company has recalled all medical devices from various departments. They include Exactech’s Optetrak Comprehensive Knee System, the Truliant Total Knee Replacement System, and the Connexion GXL Acetabular Liner. Exactech discovered that many medical devices prematurely failed due to a packaging defect. Consequently, it led to a series of problems for the plaintiffs’ including various revision surgeries and many side effects. The effects include tissue damage, permanent bone loss, and many more. This massive case has affected 100,000 individuals and will continue to do so if companies are not held accountable.
One of our attorney’s, Arati Furness, has been selected to be a part of the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee for the Exactech Product Liability Multidistrict Litigation in the Eastern District of New York. Arati Furness is a highly-qualified pharmaceutical and medical device attorney who attended Texas A&M School of Law. She was the first of her family to attend law school and previously worked as defense counsel. This accomplishment is incredibly significant, as she is the first attorney to represent Forester Haynie in such a committee. While Arati Furness might be representative of one firm, this achievement impacts people nationwide as she is a part of a team that encourages diversity and allows younger attorneys to serve in high-standing roles throughout their careers.
