A federal court has ordered AbbVie to pay over $3 million to a man who suffered a heart attack while using AndroGel. The jury awarded punitive damages which are designed to punish the company for withholding information from doctors and patients about the potential side effects of testosterone therapy. These side effects include strokes, heart attacks, and blood clots.
This AndroGel decision by the court comes shortly after several other Low-T manufacturers announced a settlement to resolve claims against them. In fact, Eli Lilly announced that it was proposing an Axiron settlement to resolve all of the testosterone claims against their company, and earlier this month, Auxilium Pharmaceuticals, Endo Pharmaceuticals, and GlaxoSmithKline indicated that a Testim settlement agreement was being finalized as well.
